What a news day yesterday was!

Most of the morning yesterday (Thursday 6/26) was spent with the news stations on XM talking about Farrah Fawcett. Then all afternoon, through the night and by how it sounds now, for the next few days, weeks and beyond its all about Michael Jackson.

They often talk about the "rule of threes" and even this morning on the local TV news were talking about Ed McMahon the beginning of the week and now Fawcett and Jackson yesterday, yup that's 3!

At least Ed McMahon got some good tribute time in I think. I'm listening to 'Showbiz Tonight' on XM, a special live morning edition on CNN Headline news, and The entire hour except for about 8 minutes was all about Jackson.
Kinda feel sorry for Farrah Fawcett fans.

I'll agree with what I've heard, Michael Jackson will now become bigger in death than could ever be imagined in life. And as Elvis, over time all his eccentricity and court actions will be forgotten or put way down the line on written memories, and he'll now forever be the "King of Pop" as much as Elvis is still "The King" all these years after his death. All Elvis all the time on XM channel 18! I'm curious if XM will do the same for Jackson, at least as a tribute for now.

I'm sorry and hope I don't sound too heartless here, but I can't and don't understand the people they're getting to make comments about him, all crying and distraught, saying their world has ended with his death. He was a performer! I liked a lot of his music, but I wouldn't want to have been 'buds' with him! Same as I feel about most entertainers, music or otherwise. I might like what they do, but I wouldn't want to know most of them personally, and my life definitely doesn't revolve around any of them!

Yeah he had a really tough life growing up, many, many people do!
I feel the "Leave it to Beaver" or "Father knows Best", or even "The Cosby Show" iconic family images as many have aspired to emulate, just plain often never existed away from a writers page.

I agree with Stacy, what about his 'kids'? However he got them, they were still his. It's reported his "wife" that gave him two of the three by artificial insemination, no longer had any legal rights to them. They were talking about grandparents, but who's?
It will be interesting to see/hear what plays out in the next few months, years.

Yeah, Stacy and I liked a lot of his music. He was after all of my and Stacy's generation, and was a year younger than me. I remember when MTV ruled in the early 1980's and actually played good music videos seeing most of his. I never liked "Billie Jean" though, although that's supposed to be one of his best.
I also remember and like Weird Al's comedy versions of several of his songs, "Eat It", "I'm Fat" and others. I remember a really funny video Weird Al did in the 80's supposedly showing him meeting with Jackson to get permission to use his songs for Al's versions, it was great!

Enough said on this! Tad

Last August 3rd, the only car dealer in town, Riverside Motors had a fire destroy their offices and showroom. Above was during the fast moving 20 minute fire. Below was taken less than 15 minutes ago and shows their new showroom/offices just about ready to move into. The rubble from the burn down was gone in less than two weeks and crews worked all during the coldest part of winter building this new building. It was moved to the back of the property and cars were moved up to the front. Since the fire the 'offices' were moved out to trailers not visible in the photo but to the left of the new building. Riverside also lost the GM part of the sales and service end of it with the GM restructuring. Too bad for the owners of all the GM cars and trucks in the area, like us, we have to drive to Sandpoint to a dealer there for GM service etc. About 35 miles away now. Riverside is now just a Chrysler/Dodge dealer service location. Pretty building though! Photo below actually occurred ...

I Must Agree, 2020 Is The Year That Isn't.

I know there are many, many people feeling along those lines.  Luckily, our area has yet to experience a large spike. Even in this rural area, the virus has made it here too. As mentioned before, most of the state cases are in the heavily populated south end of the state but there is still a count of over 38,000 positive and 451-deaths in the state.  As of this post, there has been one confirmed death of a 70-year old male, and there are currently 56-cases in this county. The most recent cases are high school sports students as schools opened on September 8th and at the last minute decided to go back to all 'in-person' classes even with all the preparations of having 'hybrid' classes of 2-days a week at school, 2-days a week online, and rotating to keep the student count down to the advised numbers to limit exposure. Our area schools are all on a 4-day week and have been for many years.  However, with those kids, are also over 65 other students who were identified w...

Four photos from the California trip

Heading South on I-15 in Utah. I'd kind of missed these 100 mile views as I saw them again while driving through this and our old high desert areas of California. It was still cool here but I got to our old area as I went through San Bernardino at the height of a heatwave with temps in the 90's! All the traffic and congestion of being back in that area for the first time in over 3 years made me glad it was just a visit! I only wished I hadn't been on such a tight time schedule and had a day free to visit with people I hadn't seen in person in almost 5 years! I was so surprised to see Primm (or Stateline Nevada) so deserted! This photo of Whiskey Pete's all but empty, it used to never be this empty, any day of the week! The Hotel is closed except for weekends anymore, only open for gambling and the McDonald's inside was the only 'restaurant' open! I'd gone there first to get a room on the way down to San Diego. I Guess most people just drive the 40 ...
