Some car Photos to catch up with.

I found out yesterday that my father had a thing for sports cars that I hadn't heard of before. Seems his dream car had been a 1950's vintage Triumph.
From the post about sports cars, above is the Mitsubishi 3000GT that we used to have. This was my 'dream car' that Stacy had gotten for me. That's why at the time I thought I'd never really drive it, I decided to trade it in for her GMC truck. It was a really nice car. Like I said, large, about the size of a Corvette, did look good and those models still do look great! Very stable and plenty fast enough. Although technically a 4 seat car, we always had those small rear seats folded an used it as a hatchback storage area.

Last time we were up at Fred Davis's place was 4th of July 2004. Above was his beloved Jaguar XKE. It was a 2 plus 2 model, although I don't think any human ever was back there. Even a kid would have been too large! And as I'd said in the post, when I drove it around and actually put some driving miles in it, it was pretty cramped and tight. Sure looked good though! He willed this car to a very good family friend. I hope she's enjoying it! Fred entered both of these cars every year in the community 4th of July Parade through town. He just about always won first place prizes on one the other or both! In 2004, the Sparton below got first place.

This was Fred's show car. Called a "Sparton" it was a kit car based on a stretched Nissan 300Z body. He'd bought it used only to find out when he got it that it had a standard transmission which caused him some discomfort in driving it because of problems he was having at the time with numbness in his left leg. It was totally show! Stacy had the unfortunate duty of being the rear seat passenger in this car. She was folded up and at an angle to fit in the back seat! Only a two door and no back opening it was a bit difficult for anyone to get in and out of in the back.
Back in a few with some photos from last weekends Eureka trip.

Last August 3rd, the only car dealer in town, Riverside Motors had a fire destroy their offices and showroom. Above was during the fast moving 20 minute fire. Below was taken less than 15 minutes ago and shows their new showroom/offices just about ready to move into. The rubble from the burn down was gone in less than two weeks and crews worked all during the coldest part of winter building this new building. It was moved to the back of the property and cars were moved up to the front. Since the fire the 'offices' were moved out to trailers not visible in the photo but to the left of the new building. Riverside also lost the GM part of the sales and service end of it with the GM restructuring. Too bad for the owners of all the GM cars and trucks in the area, like us, we have to drive to Sandpoint to a dealer there for GM service etc. About 35 miles away now. Riverside is now just a Chrysler/Dodge dealer service location. Pretty building though! Photo below actually occurred ...

"SouthLAnd", the TV show and our experiences.

Just watched the premiere episode of this new show "Southland" during my lunch today on HULU. It premieres on Thursday night at 10 PM on NBC, it's the ER replacement experiment. It was pretty good overall, it tries to be more real and more "COPS" than COPS, but for an overall view of some real life in the big city it works, even if it is a scripted TV show. You can check it right now and watch it on hulu.com About 15 minutes into the show was a realistic call that involved the new rookie officer and his experienced training officer (the actor that plays this guy usually plays hard arsed bad guys), they are responding to a DB which means Dead Body call with dogs in the house. After taking a look they call out Animal Control and after the ACO's come out and get the dogs the police officers go and check inside to find the dead guy and that his dogs, locked up with no way out, had munched on their deceased owner. The sight made the 'rookie' guy sick and...

Life as "retired"

Yes, I am now retired! 5-months ago. It was weird at first; seemed like I was just off work for a few days.  I had to drive to southern California for most of the month of April, which added to that 'on vacation' feel.  The first long trip in over two years. It was something; gas was very expensive but even more so in California!  I was glad to take our Rav4. I had been planning to take our truck. However, just a week before, we'd taken it in to get checked out, which was a major expense and a wait for the parts, so I took the Toyota. It saved a lot of money, although I planned to take the truck and the small trailer for a room instead of moteling it.  With the high cost of ..... everything!, would it have saved as much as I'd hoped? Probably not in reality, but it worked as it did. As the Rav4 is a hybrid, I was able to get an average of 37 mpg, and that was keeping the adaptive cruise control set about 66 to 69 miles per hour which is plenty fast, even with m...
