First posting

Ah the choices of setting this up! It will take a little time to 'fine tune' the page, but its a start.
Okay so what have we been doing?
Well, two weeks ago now Stacy and I went to visit with Mike and Brenda to see their new home as well as visit with my Father and Mother who were visiting. We had to work around Stacy's days off so it was a three day visit with one day there and two travel days.
All the storms flooding and disaster in the Seattle area happened right after we'd left. It was a great visit and we really like the new home. I haven't been able to see any of them since last year so I really liked the visit and getting together again. We got the grand area tour which was nice since I'd never spent any time in that part of the state before. The area is very picturesque. Mike's home is very near the flight paths of the area navy base and that brought back memories of our home in California. The first few years we lived there George A.F.B. was still operational and the F-4's and T-38's were often in the air.
Anyway, we also got to see some of the families VHS home movies from the 80's. We really enjoyed seeing the changes in people from the years. Some were pretty drastic, like Connie's weight loss. Some weren't, like Dan G. He was definitely the same guy then. He's just older now and still funny. A friend we'd met last year on our trip, Dan R., was also seen in a late 80's Beach Boy kinda look. Hopefully we'll get to see more of those later. That is of course if any of the people we've talked about don't get to them first!
On our return home we got the effects of the same storm a couple of days later. Almost 3 feet of snow in a day and a half. Then it warmed to rain here and melted most of the snow and caused a lot of area flooding. I dealt with mops and towels in our basement/pantry also. Just too much water too quickly. After two days it froze again which stopped the leaks. We've had a lot less snow than last year so far. It's been cold though! Down around zero a couple of nights and only in the 20's in the daytime.
Due to the upcoming holidays my sub-bus driving is slowed a little, which is fine with me. Took the boys Basketball team to a game in Cour De' Alene last night. While they were playing and I was in the bus watching a movie, someone went into the locker room and took their money and some wallets. When they came out they were understandably upset. Hopefully the person or people involved will be caught.
Today Stacy is getting overtime to go down to CDA to pick up some bikes donated to the city. She didn't know if they are for the Sheriff's Office or to be turned around and given as gifts for area families.
Oldest daughter Sandy was in U.A.E. Dubai last week for sessions with the local design teams to get a new hotel project back on track. On the way back she had a meeting in Milan Italy. She's quite the world traveler and that is something she'd always wanted to be. Laura and Russell seem to be doing well. Tyler had been sick with a case of Bronchitis. There were concerns of Asthma, but those apparently have been put to rest. Thank goodness! Sean is truck. He'd had a stick and with the San Diego traffic he'd already gone through a clutch, so this new automatic is great for him and his wife.
Well, how's that for the first update? Tad

Tad & Stacy,
I like your new blog page. I have subscibed to it so when you update things on it it will notify me. That way we can stay in touch. Were glad you could make it over while mom and dad were here. I know they enjoyed seeing you again as did Brenda and I. Were looking forward to coming over this summer for a quad trip into the back country.

I just wanted to beat Dwight to make this post. Some things never change, and in my case, just get better with age. Can't wait to see the updates.

Your favorite cousin,
Dan

Hi Tad and Stacy. It's good to read about recent happenings up in the Northwest. I've been thinking about starting a blog as well. It's a great way to keep in touch.

Glad you got to visit Mike & Brenda and family in Seattle. I've been hoping to get up there at some point and check out that new house. The pictures I saw are incredible.

Life here in KS has been exciting this week. Last Friday, I successfully defended my Master's thesis. I spent the weekend on Cloud Nine, before I was brought back down to earth. Tuesday morning I was walking from my apartment to the parking lot, when I discovered that someone had "borrowed" my car without my knowledge. Of course, I have my fingers crossed that the police will find it, but in all likelihood, I'm in the market for a new car.

Well, I look forward to reading more in the future. Thanks for sharing the blog link with me. I will eagerly await your next posting.

I shouldn't have told Dan I was going to post until I already had... Dadnabit! My only consolation is Mike beat him to the punch.
Hey Kids, I am pleased to here about Stacey getting on so quick and being spared the 3rd grilling that goes into a job interview. I hated those things so bad I stayed mostly unemployable.

Tad,it is great news that your dad showed up for a visit. And your correct, his wife would be introduced, in polite society, as your mother. I Checked Ms. Manners. She knows everything. I wish she was my girl friend.

My book is 95% complete and I will not need to do anymore until I meet with the publisher and Editor in Drexel,Pa, about the first week of January. Then it will only take one more year working with the publishing staff to finish it.

I my have another story being printed by America In WWII in about five or six months.

Take care kids, your doing well,
Love Uncle Joe

Tad/Stacy,

Glad you started the blog. I may have to consider one for recording our "Ozark Mountian Retreat" happenings.

We will be checking in from time to time.

Blessings to you both in the new year.

We love you and are pleased that you are our family ambassadors to the state of Idaho!

I can't say I'm on a roll just yet, but here's a new post!

So, to continue with last weeks story. In August, Stacy finally got the trailer she's been wanting all along. Yes, while I like the larger, around 28 to 30 foot or so, RVs, Stacy has kept the idea that smaller is better. Smaller can go pretty much anyplace you'd want to camp and our 5th wheel, at 34-feet long, while it can go most places, it can't go 'anyplace' due to the length. When we got the 5th wheel in July 2017, I was surprised Stacy was willing and even suggested, we go for it trading in our 33-foot travel trailer to get the Jayco. Again, the "Wildcat Maxx" was a nice travel trailer. It had made several short and two long trips in the almost two years we'd owned it. We lucked out as in an era of the rapid assembly to make the crazy sales numbers the RV industry has been having, the Wildcat was "completed on a Wednesday by happy Amish at the factory" as we didn't have any of the build issues I still read about from the appar...

So, Winter Decided It Wasn't Done Quite Yet Around Here!

After last weeks post of me talking about the somewhat short winter so far, it got cold! I mean really cold over the weekend, like two mornings with the lows of +8 (-13C) and +9 (-12C) and 'highs' around 25 (-3C). No one I had talked with thought it would be that THAT cold again this season! Then last night, 02/13/18, there had been a "Winter Storm Watch" issued for the time period of 10 PM Tuesday to 12 noon Wednesday for "up to" 11 inches of snow. Luckily, we didn't get anything near that with about 4 inches overnight and the snow stopped around 10 am and warmed into the mid-30s during the day so what had fallen had begun to melt, clearing off the roads and walkways but staying on the grass. However, for its last blast, we still could get a few more inches of accumulation between now and next Sunday the 18th. Then, the long-term forecast has the daytime temps going back into the mid to upper 30s again in about a week. We'll see! On Monday t...

2021, the long hot summer of our discontent!

Yes, it was one long HOT summer!  In addition to the record-breaking heat along the coastal ranges in Oregon, Washington, and into Canada, we saw temperatures in this Northern Idaho area I NEVER thought we would see again after moving away from the high desert of Southern California in 2006! The hottest temp was an afternoon high of 112 degrees (44.44 C) on June 30th. But, hot, hot days, too warm evenings, no rain so dusty and dry.  Record heat, the hottest weather ever recorded in Idaho, and, according to the stories, only the beginning of the heat that will probably be the "new normal" from this point on. Seems that the same "high-pressure bubble" that causes the cold and snow of winter weather to almost completely bypass our region of the pacific northwest in winter causes record heat in our same region of the pacific northwest in the summer! Since my last post, mainly, we have just been living and trying to avoid getting Covid. Stacy and I got our vaccinations...
