Just a few days left before Christmas

Today was another snowy day. Just about a half inch on top of the now frozen remaining snow pack. This past week was several days of snow and then every time the temp rose above freezing and into the almost forty degree range so it became a slushy mess. Also was occasionally tense on those morning bus drives for me. At least the route I'll be driving for the next month or two is fairly level for its run. There are several routes that include many hills of varying steepness and on Tuesday afternoon it was snowing heavily and on the service radios I heard that several buses got stuck in the snow to different degrees on their routes. None had to be towed out, but it was close for one.
On Thursday evening it decided to become wintry again and the temps dropped into the teens. Since then it has stayed in the 20's daytime and low teens at night and has snowed off and on, just not much snow to add to the accumulating base.
Stacy is at work right now on her dispatch shift, but only has a few days left for this job. She's been meeting with those she'll be working with starting January fourth to get a start on the transition and take over of the active cases. And there are over 40 working cases!! Stacy will have an office of her own and is really excited about setting it up. We're both looking very much forward to her not having night shifts any longer. She was on graveyard almost all summer and has been on this 4 pm to 2 am shift for the past couple of months. She has however been scheduled to work two more graveyards, Christmas Eve and then her last on next Saturday the 29th. Her last shift in dispatch will be 4 pm to 2 am on the 30th.
I read the e-mail from Dwight that he was able to recover his stolen Honda. That the car was apparently still in more or less one piece was remarkable in itself in these days of rapid auto chopping. Back in California it was said that a car could be almost totally stripped in less than two hours!
Overall it seems like 2007 has been a pretty decent year for everybody we know. Stacy and I hope that that trend continues for 2008! Stacy is really looking forward to her new job. I'm thinking about Mike's "Wild Hog" trip he's discussed for maybe July or August. Still more stuff to do here on the property. More clearing of dead wood and branches is one thing I'm looking to get done (I hope) this summer. We've got interior trim to work on and a few touch up areas of outside to paint. In the spring we can start quad riding again and see more of the picturesque country we live in. Not that I'm skipping over winter. Stacy and I love the fact that there are real winters here. After basically living all our lives in a two season area, we still like the rainy days, the snowy days, the cloudy days of our area.

Two movie reviews!
Reign over me- we thought it was a good drama. The acting was pretty good as was the storyline of coping with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder of an unimaginable magnitude. And how in helping a friend, they help each other to overcome problems.

The Simpson's Movie- okay, so I talked Stacy into buying this one instead of the usual rent first and buy later if its good. But I like the Simpson's! I thought that a full length feature of this show would be a little tough to pull off. I think that it generally worked pretty well with some very funny parts in it. If you like the Simpson's TV show, check out the movie!

I guess that will do it for now. I'm trying to type and watch Alien on DVD at the same time. Not working out too well, so I'll sign off for now. Its snowing and eighteen outside.

2021, the long hot summer of our discontent!

Yes, it was one long HOT summer!  In addition to the record-breaking heat along the coastal ranges in Oregon, Washington, and into Canada, we saw temperatures in this Northern Idaho area I NEVER thought we would see again after moving away from the high desert of Southern California in 2006! The hottest temp was an afternoon high of 112 degrees (44.44 C) on June 30th. But, hot, hot days, too warm evenings, no rain so dusty and dry.  Record heat, the hottest weather ever recorded in Idaho, and, according to the stories, only the beginning of the heat that will probably be the "new normal" from this point on. Seems that the same "high-pressure bubble" that causes the cold and snow of winter weather to almost completely bypass our region of the pacific northwest in winter causes record heat in our same region of the pacific northwest in the summer! Since my last post, mainly, we have just been living and trying to avoid getting Covid. Stacy and I got our vaccinations...

Spring, and warmer weather is in the air!

I had started this post on April 15th, now it's the 23rd so this is now history! Warmer temps, for a few days anyway. After the last few weeks of more like winter than spring temps, it is pushing 70-degrees (21.1 C) today! It's been clear, not windy like the last three days, and generally nice weather. We can only hope it will continue to be good weather with it not too dry for the late summer since it has been a dry winter and spring so far. The last time it was particularly dry it was a very bad summer for Hornets. Most places in the region have many of those yellow and greenish hanging hornet traps set all over the place. We do too!  Time to get the traps out, cleaned, and set out for the season. You have to get the traps baited and up soon as with the warm weather the hibernating queens come to and start looking for places to set up new nests. That one year though, hornets were everywhere! The forest was alive with the buzzing of thousands (millions?) of hornets. Dozens ...

So, Winter Decided It Wasn't Done Quite Yet Around Here!

After last weeks post of me talking about the somewhat short winter so far, it got cold! I mean really cold over the weekend, like two mornings with the lows of +8 (-13C) and +9 (-12C) and 'highs' around 25 (-3C). No one I had talked with thought it would be that THAT cold again this season! Then last night, 02/13/18, there had been a "Winter Storm Watch" issued for the time period of 10 PM Tuesday to 12 noon Wednesday for "up to" 11 inches of snow. Luckily, we didn't get anything near that with about 4 inches overnight and the snow stopped around 10 am and warmed into the mid-30s during the day so what had fallen had begun to melt, clearing off the roads and walkways but staying on the grass. However, for its last blast, we still could get a few more inches of accumulation between now and next Sunday the 18th. Then, the long-term forecast has the daytime temps going back into the mid to upper 30s again in about a week. We'll see! On Monday t...
