Today I had part one of a three part plan to replace all the fillings I've had since I was a kid. A couple of weeks ago I thought I ought to use my dental plan, better than my old one, and go have a check up. I decided to try a new dentist in town because the one I'd been to before, while he was OK, his hygienist would never be called painless! Just too many slips of those sharp pointy things to stab me in my mouth.
So I went in and had two sessions to bring my teeth up to snuff, but I was also told that my silver fillings should have been replaced 'decades' ago. Did you know that fillings are only supposed to last about 10 to 15 years? I didn't, and none of the dentists I've had over the years back in California must not have know that either. Must be like how almost everything has an expiration date on it now. Didn't when I was a kid. You kept it in the fridge until it almost crawled out on it own power in those days. I'm still alive after all of it too, Stacy doesn't see how though! I sometimes have problems with Stacy wanting to toss something the day after the date on the package- WRONG!! Unless left out things can't go bad that fast!! I've seen Mythbusters, I KNOW!!
Anyway, my, how things have changed. Instead of the fillings of my youth, a cloud of tooth dust and bits flying all over out of my mouth in the glow of the spot-lamp, today there was an assistant that had a mini vac to suck it all away! The vac also masked the famous sound of that air drill too. And no more silver, now its a polymer (plastic) that gets bonded by a sonic heat lamp, then the area gets 'adjusted' (ground down) to kinda be like the tooth used to be. And he uses a rubber pad that gets secured around the tooth and covers my mouth so bits no longer can fall back into the mouth area. Hmmmm.......
He said that a lot of the thermal sensitivity adjustments needed of the old metal fillings is mostly gone or lessened using the new stuff. I'll have to see on that one. Over three hours later and my mouth is almost back to normal. I just had some soup and I'll see how it goes. And next week, Tuesday and Thursday I get to go back again for the rest of them!
No major changes from last week, so type later. Tad
