Busy, busy, busy

REALLY busy!
Start off first with me currently working two jobs.
The one paying and the other not.......,well not yet anyway. At the department where Stacy works the person recently hired didn't work out and left so I stepped up and said I'd volunteer. Gives me a chance to see if I'd like to do that job and gives them a chance to see if they'd like me to do the job permanently. So between those hours and the busier busing end of the year rush, I haven't had the opportunity to get working on keeping everyone caught up on our 'happenings'.
Sean and Brandy were here their week, from the 19th to the 26th of April.
The weather co-operated to give them a taste of what winter is like around here. When they left San Diego it was in the 70's. On arrival at Spokane it was in the low 30's and snow showers. They got to see a lot of snow showers and a few inches of build up for most of the week they were here. Neither Sean nor Brandy had ever seen, in person, snow building up on the trees. Plus there was then still almost a foot and a half of snow on the ground in some still shaded areas around the property then. They had a busy week and got to do a lot of things around the area. We went quad riding the Friday before they left and several of the quads got stuck in the slushier snow that was really deep up there. Remember, we're talking only around 3,500 feet for 'in the mountains' around here. Not the 7 or 8 thousand feet it was back in California.
Well, I've been waiting for some pictures to upload but I'm doubting they will make it this time. Being mothers day and all the net is kinda busy. I'll get them on later.
Suffice to say that Sean and Brandy had a good time. Sean hadn't been in the area for a few years and Brandy had never been in an area with this many trees.
And on their return to San Diego, with their just becoming a little acclimated to the colder weather during a week here, it was in the almost 90's when they got back home. They called that night to say they were just sitting in the apartment sweating.

And now we're looking forward to Sandy and Erik's visit over Memorial Day Weekend. Arriving on Friday the 23rd and going back on the holiday Monday. The snow is all gone now, but it's still well below normal temps. Its supposed to get into the 70's by Wednesday this week but we'll have to see. We've heard that several times in the past few weeks but the low 60's has been the warmest. A lot of rain, some snow, and 40's or 50's daytime and 30's to 40's at night. All the plants don't seem to mind the weather though, everything is getting real green real quick. I'll have to get the mower going for next weekend.

Today being mothers day, after the monthly motorcycle club meeting this morning. Stacy and I went over to the Indian Casino so she could gamble a little bit. She did pretty well and then decided to go do something completely different and entered to win a Pontiac Solstice tonight at a 7:00 drawing. She had to stay all day for the hourly drawing to see if her 'chances of winning' were bolstered by winning any of the hourly drawing before the big one tonight. So she brought me home. Picked up a book and went back to be there for the drawings. We know that its a long shot, she was told a one in two thousand odds. So, as long as she's had fun all day, then it was worth it. I told her that unless she calls me I'd come down for the 7 PM drawing just to be there. We also joked that should she win, it would be her prize on mothers day and my prize on daddy's day!

So, that's the update so far. Just a lot of being busy right now. Stacy is always pretty busy with her job. The busing has really picked up since its just three weeks till school's over for this school year. I'll be honest, if the job at Stacy's department works out I'll take it. EVEN though it means FULL time. Not the part-time the busing has been. Busing was a job I'd always wanted to try. I'd almost done busing instead of the 25 years with San Bernardino County. So I'd wanted to see what it was like. And now I have! So moving on would be alright with me!
Hopefully my next installment won't be quite so long from now!

Keep us informed of your 'possible' new adventure. So much for being retired.... So driving a bus is not all that it's cut out to be. Was thinking about doing that when I finally retired. Maybe I should rethink my ideas...

Take care,
Mike

Last August 3rd, the only car dealer in town, Riverside Motors had a fire destroy their offices and showroom. Above was during the fast moving 20 minute fire. Below was taken less than 15 minutes ago and shows their new showroom/offices just about ready to move into. The rubble from the burn down was gone in less than two weeks and crews worked all during the coldest part of winter building this new building. It was moved to the back of the property and cars were moved up to the front. Since the fire the 'offices' were moved out to trailers not visible in the photo but to the left of the new building. Riverside also lost the GM part of the sales and service end of it with the GM restructuring. Too bad for the owners of all the GM cars and trucks in the area, like us, we have to drive to Sandpoint to a dealer there for GM service etc. About 35 miles away now. Riverside is now just a Chrysler/Dodge dealer service location. Pretty building though! Photo below actually occurred ...

I Must Agree, 2020 Is The Year That Isn't.

I know there are many, many people feeling along those lines.  Luckily, our area has yet to experience a large spike. Even in this rural area, the virus has made it here too. As mentioned before, most of the state cases are in the heavily populated south end of the state but there is still a count of over 38,000 positive and 451-deaths in the state.  As of this post, there has been one confirmed death of a 70-year old male, and there are currently 56-cases in this county. The most recent cases are high school sports students as schools opened on September 8th and at the last minute decided to go back to all 'in-person' classes even with all the preparations of having 'hybrid' classes of 2-days a week at school, 2-days a week online, and rotating to keep the student count down to the advised numbers to limit exposure. Our area schools are all on a 4-day week and have been for many years.  However, with those kids, are also over 65 other students who were identified w...

Four photos from the California trip

Heading South on I-15 in Utah. I'd kind of missed these 100 mile views as I saw them again while driving through this and our old high desert areas of California. It was still cool here but I got to our old area as I went through San Bernardino at the height of a heatwave with temps in the 90's! All the traffic and congestion of being back in that area for the first time in over 3 years made me glad it was just a visit! I only wished I hadn't been on such a tight time schedule and had a day free to visit with people I hadn't seen in person in almost 5 years! I was so surprised to see Primm (or Stateline Nevada) so deserted! This photo of Whiskey Pete's all but empty, it used to never be this empty, any day of the week! The Hotel is closed except for weekends anymore, only open for gambling and the McDonald's inside was the only 'restaurant' open! I'd gone there first to get a room on the way down to San Diego. I Guess most people just drive the 40 ...
