Hello Again World

Well, what can I say? I have no excuse as to why I have pretty much let this Blog flounder and not keep up with it for far too long.

Now it is almost winter, almost the year, 2020. The days are very short, sunup around 8 am sunset around 3:30 to 4 pm or earlier when the weather is overcast.
We got over 6-inches of snow yesterday before, as predicted, the snow turned to rain overnight and became a mess today.
Oh well, the way of our weather for the last few years. It gets cold to really cold when dry, then when there's snow it warms to rain the next day or so. The new normal apparently.
The weather pattern for this region has shifted and to get to the winter we used to have you must travel a bit north into Canada or head east to Montana. It has seemed that Kalispell and to the east is where winter lives now.

So, what has been going on this past year in our world?

Well, 2019 started with our son and his wife living with us. They had come to visit in the summer of 2018 and decided to stay. That's what families are for, right?
In late 2018, Sean still wanted a certain job but applied for local jobs to facilitate staying in the area and his wife was able to get her first job ever working at the assisted living facility. Sean finally got the job he really wanted, working with a wind and solar energy company. He was happy, the money was going to be good but the job involved traveling throughout the lower 48-states to the various job sites where new construction wind or solar sites were being built.
In March, our middle kid, daughter Laura, had a final straw break-up with her live-in boyfriend in Colorado and also moved out to our area. Sean was gone and our small home was getting really small.
Laura was able to find a job after just a few days here and that helped her decide not to go back with Mr. bad news, we were happy about that!

With all the people and belongings we decided in May if they were going to stay we would try to help out by building a small, "granny house" on the property.
We have enough property to be able to do that, we just needed to clear some trees and get started. And that's what we did, we got started.
We picked some places and began clearing a space for what will still ultimately be one small home.
We did a lot of work and cleared a place but decided to build it next spring/summer.
Sean's wife decided she was missing him and Sean agreed to let her quit her job and go with him to live in his temporary housing. That eased the overcrowding which was why we did what we could and decided to continue after the winter and to help save up for the project.
So Sean and his wife Brandy are staying in New Mexico and he's working at a new solar power site being built in West Texas. Over 7-square miles and 5-BILLION solar panels going into a new site!!!

We did a lot of around the property projects over the summer. We decided we need to purge as we still had property from relatives as well as tons of our own stuff that we just never used and didn't need any longer. We got a lot done with that and still have a lot to do next year to continue.

In June we finally got our 5th wheel back from Camping World who had kept the trailer at their store for 9-months because they messed up! After rushing to get it ready we barely had it ready for our 2-week which was all in Oregon this year. Along the coast then inland for sites to see then to Portland where the trip started and ended this year with Sandy and the granddaughters flying to and then from the Portland International airport. That had been Stacy's plan to maximize trip time, but we won't do that again because Sandy really didn't enjoy not coming to the property to start and end the trip.

That will have to do it for now as it is about time to go home from work, plus I want to add some photos next time so you reader or readers so I'll get another post going next week!

Yes! I will post sooner than months later!

Tad

2021, the long hot summer of our discontent!

Yes, it was one long HOT summer!  In addition to the record-breaking heat along the coastal ranges in Oregon, Washington, and into Canada, we saw temperatures in this Northern Idaho area I NEVER thought we would see again after moving away from the high desert of Southern California in 2006! The hottest temp was an afternoon high of 112 degrees (44.44 C) on June 30th. But, hot, hot days, too warm evenings, no rain so dusty and dry.  Record heat, the hottest weather ever recorded in Idaho, and, according to the stories, only the beginning of the heat that will probably be the "new normal" from this point on. Seems that the same "high-pressure bubble" that causes the cold and snow of winter weather to almost completely bypass our region of the pacific northwest in winter causes record heat in our same region of the pacific northwest in the summer! Since my last post, mainly, we have just been living and trying to avoid getting Covid. Stacy and I got our vaccinations...

I can't say I'm on a roll just yet, but here's a new post!

So, to continue with last weeks story. In August, Stacy finally got the trailer she's been wanting all along. Yes, while I like the larger, around 28 to 30 foot or so, RVs, Stacy has kept the idea that smaller is better. Smaller can go pretty much anyplace you'd want to camp and our 5th wheel, at 34-feet long, while it can go most places, it can't go 'anyplace' due to the length. When we got the 5th wheel in July 2017, I was surprised Stacy was willing and even suggested, we go for it trading in our 33-foot travel trailer to get the Jayco. Again, the "Wildcat Maxx" was a nice travel trailer. It had made several short and two long trips in the almost two years we'd owned it. We lucked out as in an era of the rapid assembly to make the crazy sales numbers the RV industry has been having, the Wildcat was "completed on a Wednesday by happy Amish at the factory" as we didn't have any of the build issues I still read about from the appar...

Spring, and warmer weather is in the air!

I had started this post on April 15th, now it's the 23rd so this is now history! Warmer temps, for a few days anyway. After the last few weeks of more like winter than spring temps, it is pushing 70-degrees (21.1 C) today! It's been clear, not windy like the last three days, and generally nice weather. We can only hope it will continue to be good weather with it not too dry for the late summer since it has been a dry winter and spring so far. The last time it was particularly dry it was a very bad summer for Hornets. Most places in the region have many of those yellow and greenish hanging hornet traps set all over the place. We do too!  Time to get the traps out, cleaned, and set out for the season. You have to get the traps baited and up soon as with the warm weather the hibernating queens come to and start looking for places to set up new nests. That one year though, hornets were everywhere! The forest was alive with the buzzing of thousands (millions?) of hornets. Dozens ...
