It has been HOT the last few days! Right at 100 last night at 5 when we were heading home. It only got down to 65 for the low this morning, so not cool!
At least it is predicted to get cooler Friday and over the weekend, maybe even some rain.
There is a fire currently burning up near the Canadian border for the last two plus weeks, the Parker Canyon fire, that continues to slowly grow, it is over 600 acres as of last evening with possible evacuations being considered if the fire's growth can't be stopped in 2 miles of some homes.

Down in the Bayview area of Sandpoint, where there was a very large fire around the 4th of July that made the national newscasts, another fire continues to slowly grow in that general area.
Hot and dry is the theme of the entire Northwest this year, as with many other areas too.
Making the regional news is many streams are being closed to fishing due to heat stressing of the fish population causing die offs because of the water temps of the streams are getting so high.

Last weekend we watched a movie, Snowpiercer, I had recorded off of DirecTv on the hard drive. I had kept reading all kinds of glorious reviews of how great it was.
WRONG!
It instantly was NOT that great and as I looked it up on my iPad at Internet Movie Database, I saw most reviews there were the complete opposite of great, with most emphasizing how the plot, that there was anyway, was convoluted and basically made no sense, I whole heartily agree!
But, forgetting it's a bad Korean movie, even with all the US "star power" in it, the premise that 'causes' the movie is very plausible to me.
The earth keeps getting hotter so science creates a 'cure' but in deploying the cure it causes a global ice age that freezes the entire planet.
Yup, I could see that. I expect there are scientist someplace currently working on how to get control of the weather and bring 'normal' back to really meaning normal again.

Will they? Maybe, but I can see things easily going wrong in messing with the atmosphere.

We'll have to wait and see what happens!

It looks like our first non-white Christmas since moving to North Idaho.

As I had said the last post, while winter is here now, it just isn't here ! Two hours north, in the Cranbrook, Canada region, cold and snow. About two-hours east, in the Kalispell, Montana area, winter is there too with cold and snow! This area, more like late fall continued with overcast and cloudy with temps in the low 30s at night and high 30s in the daytime. Maybe some rain in the next day or so or a trace of snow overnight to melt away with the "high" temps for what used to be normal for this time of the year. Last week if the temps had not gone into the 40s with heavy rain by Saturday we would have some snow but the temps and the rain washed it all away. I checked with my records from last year and on December 23rd we had gotten 4-inches of snow. Not much but still a white Christmas. Christmas Day we had heavy snow showers but not much new accumulation. This morning the low was 33 degrees with a high expected to be 36 degrees. Sad face! I like the winters her...

So, Winter Decided It Wasn't Done Quite Yet Around Here!

After last weeks post of me talking about the somewhat short winter so far, it got cold! I mean really cold over the weekend, like two mornings with the lows of +8 (-13C) and +9 (-12C) and 'highs' around 25 (-3C). No one I had talked with thought it would be that THAT cold again this season! Then last night, 02/13/18, there had been a "Winter Storm Watch" issued for the time period of 10 PM Tuesday to 12 noon Wednesday for "up to" 11 inches of snow. Luckily, we didn't get anything near that with about 4 inches overnight and the snow stopped around 10 am and warmed into the mid-30s during the day so what had fallen had begun to melt, clearing off the roads and walkways but staying on the grass. However, for its last blast, we still could get a few more inches of accumulation between now and next Sunday the 18th. Then, the long-term forecast has the daytime temps going back into the mid to upper 30s again in about a week. We'll see! On Monday t...

First posting

Ah the choices of setting this up! It will take a little time to 'fine tune' the page, but its a start. Okay so what have we been doing? Well, two weeks ago now Stacy and I went to visit with Mike and Brenda to see their new home as well as visit with my Father and Mother who were visiting. We had to work around Stacy's days off so it was a three day visit with one day there and two travel days. All the storms flooding and disaster in the Seattle area happened right after we'd left. It was a great visit and we really like the new home. I haven't been able to see any of them since last year so I really liked the visit and getting together again. We got the grand area tour which was nice since I'd never spent any time in that part of the state before. The area is very picturesque. Mike's home is very near the flight paths of the area navy base and that brought back memories of our home in California. The first few years we lived there George A.F.B. was still ...
