Memorial or 'Decoration' Day, 2011

Weather has finally started to become a bit Spring like. Still have snow levels in the weather reports but now up around 6,000 feet. Last Thursday there was even a Winter Storm warning!
I'm not sure how much of the news is making it nation wide especially with all the other weather disaster news of the last month, but in many areas of the Northwest there are record river levels and many are probably going to be flooding. In our area both the Kootenai and Moyie Rivers are expected to be at and over floodstage later this week. While we won't be affected, up on a plateau, a lot of low lying properties and businesses are at risk. The Kootenai is fed by the surge of water rain and snow melt at the lake behind the Libby dam in Motana. It's getting full so the dam is letting out more water. Actually before the dam was built the entire old town area of this town would flood almost every year. And the "Mirror Lake" Golf Course used to actually be at a seasonal lake of the same name.
Today though, the temps made it to almost 70. I heard on the radio this morning that around 4 inches of snow fell over in Lander Wyoming. I can't complain about the weather though. I remember that back in Phelan, CA. around Memorial day was usually the first over 90 temps. So, at 70ish, I love it!
Today was spent by me getting primarily caught up with some projects that have been waiting to get DONE! Yesterday Stacy and I went to the plots at the garden cleaned up the weeds, were disappointed that none of the seeds Stacy had planted germinated so we went to an area greenhouse and bought some veggie plants and planted those. Later in the day Stacy went into town and while she was gone I sharpened and changed the blades on the mower and mowed in the front. I also did my first ride of 2011 on my motorcycle. About an hour riding around and everything works great!

Sandy and her husband took a trip to the San Francisco last Wednesday looking for a place to live. Erik got a new job so they'll be moving up North from Irvine. They have to get moved all settled and Erik ready to start for his first day on July 5th. Not a lot of time but last November Sean and Brandy had a little over two week to get moved to Hawaii! Sandy said they found a place too.

And my uncle in Virginia told me he was moving over this weekend too. I remember reading that most people used to move (still do?) beginning Memorial day and to Labor Day.

Oh well, till next time

It looks like our first non-white Christmas since moving to North Idaho.

As I had said the last post, while winter is here now, it just isn't here ! Two hours north, in the Cranbrook, Canada region, cold and snow. About two-hours east, in the Kalispell, Montana area, winter is there too with cold and snow! This area, more like late fall continued with overcast and cloudy with temps in the low 30s at night and high 30s in the daytime. Maybe some rain in the next day or so or a trace of snow overnight to melt away with the "high" temps for what used to be normal for this time of the year. Last week if the temps had not gone into the 40s with heavy rain by Saturday we would have some snow but the temps and the rain washed it all away. I checked with my records from last year and on December 23rd we had gotten 4-inches of snow. Not much but still a white Christmas. Christmas Day we had heavy snow showers but not much new accumulation. This morning the low was 33 degrees with a high expected to be 36 degrees. Sad face! I like the winters her...

So, Winter Decided It Wasn't Done Quite Yet Around Here!

After last weeks post of me talking about the somewhat short winter so far, it got cold! I mean really cold over the weekend, like two mornings with the lows of +8 (-13C) and +9 (-12C) and 'highs' around 25 (-3C). No one I had talked with thought it would be that THAT cold again this season! Then last night, 02/13/18, there had been a "Winter Storm Watch" issued for the time period of 10 PM Tuesday to 12 noon Wednesday for "up to" 11 inches of snow. Luckily, we didn't get anything near that with about 4 inches overnight and the snow stopped around 10 am and warmed into the mid-30s during the day so what had fallen had begun to melt, clearing off the roads and walkways but staying on the grass. However, for its last blast, we still could get a few more inches of accumulation between now and next Sunday the 18th. Then, the long-term forecast has the daytime temps going back into the mid to upper 30s again in about a week. We'll see! On Monday t...

First posting

Ah the choices of setting this up! It will take a little time to 'fine tune' the page, but its a start. Okay so what have we been doing? Well, two weeks ago now Stacy and I went to visit with Mike and Brenda to see their new home as well as visit with my Father and Mother who were visiting. We had to work around Stacy's days off so it was a three day visit with one day there and two travel days. All the storms flooding and disaster in the Seattle area happened right after we'd left. It was a great visit and we really like the new home. I haven't been able to see any of them since last year so I really liked the visit and getting together again. We got the grand area tour which was nice since I'd never spent any time in that part of the state before. The area is very picturesque. Mike's home is very near the flight paths of the area navy base and that brought back memories of our home in California. The first few years we lived there George A.F.B. was still ...
