Our Lives Aren't Supposed to be THIS Busy Anymore!!!

Quite a lot has been going on since October 22nd and the last post!

Laura and Tyler were with us the 24th to the 31st, Sandy and Erik came up the 29th and also went home the 31st. Erik was getting over being sick and Sandy had the brunt of the illness that Saturday. And being the caring daughter she is, Sandy gave us the gift that keeps on giving- her illness! She was only with us such a short time but within just a few days after they'd left I was sick and so was Stacy's father.
The problem with that was, Sean had been offered and had excepted the position with his company and had a very short time frame to get relocated to Hawaii. So sick or not things had to get going to get him moved. Stacy and I talked about how best to facilitate this task, and agreed to make it a two part job. I would take the truck and trailer to California, get all their belongings and bring them to Idaho to keep and ship to Sean and Brandy in Hawaii over time. Stacy would take Brandy and go to Hawaii and get an apartment for them and help get everything set and working before Sean came out.
Well, after several days the order changed somewhat and became the way it was for me and Stacy. I still went to San Diego and got all their belongings as well as Brandy to bring up here. Stacy would meet Sean in Hawaii and do all the stuff needed to get going in a new location.
So at 9:30 in the morning of November 3rd I was on my way to California. I was sick and felt terrible but with the time limits there wasn't anyway to work around it, I was on a quick trip to San Diego. I arrived at Sean's apartment at 4:00 pm on Friday the 6th. At 4:10 pm the 7th, I was on my way back with the truck cab, bed and trailer loaded and Brandy in the passenger seat. That evening was to Phelan to let Brandy say her goodbyes to her family and sleep at her families place, drop off some stuff her family would be getting and pick up some things that Sean had stored there a couple of years ago. I left the trailer at their house and I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Hesperia, and got checked in about 9:30 pm. By 11:30 am the next day, Sunday, we were back on the road heading North on the I-15. I'd had to retie the load and stop at Home Depot in Victorville, that wasn't there the last time I was there, to buy more tie downs and some rope as a backup for the load that was shifting at first before everything settled.
Then it was just d-r-i-v-e to get back to Idaho. Got to Mesquite, NV. that Sunday night, Idaho Falls the next night. Big problem was during the day that Monday it had started to rain South of Cedar City and didn't stop raining much until it became snow at Pocatello Idaho. During that many of the boxes of belongings, even covered with traps, became wet and began to 'melt' on the trailer. I could see throughout the afternoon as they became more soaked, the boxes which started out square became more and more rounded as we progressed. Then with the boxes falling apart the tie downs continually loosened up which meant stops to readjust the load. One stop was due to Brandy noticing that it looked like a "box had fallen" and when I stopped the only thing that kept a box full of their stuff from going all over I-15 near Salt Lake City was that it had all fallen into the tarp and the tarp had caught the load!
Other than snow the rest of the trip, one long day, was uneventful. A little nerve racking going through a couple of mountain passes, the worst was the pass at the border of Montana and Idaho where it was still very icy on the I-15 the next morning and I was very glad I had the 4x4 Chevy on the trip, just in case!
Almost home and now after dark with the time change, I was able to meet up with Stacy in a town about an hour from home for a few minutes as she was heading out to Spokane and stay at a motel to be more easily able to get to the airport for her 6 am flight to Portland and then her 5 and a half our flight to Hawaii.
I'll add some photos to a new blog about this trip. And try to get Stacy to add her adventures in Hawaii.

Life in a Northern Town, In Winter

So, here we are, early in 2018. While our area gets cold, we don't get the  really cold, the cold of Montana and eastward. Where we are, in North Idaho, 30 miles from Canada, we are in a bowl of a valley. That's why we wind up with mostly overcast days in the winter. We are also pretty well protected from the strong blizzard kinds of winds and the weather patterns that are causing the conditions in Montana eastward, a parked high-pressure system that steers that super cold weather up and over this area and into Montana and eastward. We are into, what is usually some of the coldest weather of the year for this area, for a normal year! When was the last of those, normal years, thanks to climate change, whether from natural cycles or what's been changed by human expansion? Anyway, since before Christmas the area has been lows in the 8 to 10-degree (F) range (-13 C to -12 C) with highs in the upper teens to low 20's (-6 C or so). As mentioned the last post, we'd

Yeah!! The Elections are over!!! For now.....

Yes we're sure glad the elections are over, that is a really good thing. But we're even more happy that they're over because of the CONSTANT commercials on TV and the, seemed like, every night calls at home. With the stretched out length of this election "season" (as it was referred to on many programs!), and with those increasingly annoying TV adds and calls to sway votes, we quit answering the phone all together, were really bad and lasted so much longer this time around. And with our ability to see regional TV from other locations in the US and Canada, what we didn't see for more local stuff, we saw the same kinds of things for those areas instead. It was interesting at times, and thoughts of how things could have changed if the actual election had been held earlier with the rush of pro Palin, or if Obama had chosen Hillary instead of Biden, just so many things this time around had potential for some serious changes to the outcome! But we've got what

Other things from the past week

Hornets, Yellow jackets, and Wasps, a very, very bad year this year for them around here!  And not just in our area but most of North Idaho from what we've found out. In fact when Stacy stopped at Wal Mart to buy some new bait for our traps, Wal Mart was sold out and across the street at Home Depot, she was lucky to get there when a new shipment of traps and bait was being opened. She was told by the clerk that their shipments have been selling out in less than a day and as quick as a half hour as so many people are having problems with the bugs! And hospital and doctor visits have increased dramatically too due to stings according to the news. It has been both hotter and dryer than normal locally this summer so mosquitoes were way down, a very good thing!  But now in late August when the "skitos" would be low anyway, the Hornets, Yellow Jackets and Wasps, and yes we have all three types on our place!, have been going crazy quietly building nests all over the
