Just an update

It is getting more like fall to winter now in our area.
All the weather forecasts give the possible snow levels and altitudes in the recordings. The temps have been in the low 50's for the past week which is the normal temp range. It has warmed up at night to the low thirties from the low twenties of last week and earlier this week. Next week it's forecasting only low to mid forties! For the high temps! In looking at photos and the older blogs, last October 27th, 2009, was the first snow of the season back then. Will it snow around the same time this year?

Stacy and I are both off work next week because our daughter Laura and her son, the only grand kid so far, will be flying out this Sunday for a weeks visit. Stacy and I are really looking forward to the visit. Last time Laura was here was in the summer of 2006 for a couple of weeks. Quite a lot has changed in her little family since then! And Tyler is 4 years old now so he might do more than sleep or cry as he did last visit!

Oldest Daughter Sandy and her husband will be flying up next Friday for the weekend than they all fly back on Halloween day. Then Sandy is looking at on her return home, turning around and flying to India for the project her firm has been working on for over a year. Then get back and fly out to New Mexico for a long weekend with her husband for his birthday. Of course it was all set up before the possibility of India!

Son Sean called today with the biggest news lately. He had been telling me in the past few months that his contract was to expire, possibly next year, and he was checking into other options within the company he works for or in the civilian aviation market. At just turning 27 last week, he has been a line supervisor for over three of years now and has been doing exemplary work for his company. He's proud of his work, dealing with multimillion dollar aircraft. The aircraft they've been working on, the CH-46 Vietnam era twin rotor cargo/passenger helicopter, is being phased out of military use due to age. So that was why he'd been concerned of what would be next in his life.
In his call earlier today he was excited but nervous, because he was offered the new job with his company working in Hawaii! New aircraft too, the still used and in no danger of being phased out, CH-53. He told me a couple of weeks ago about the job but he never thought he'd get the chance. Only catch, he has to decide and be moved over to Hawaii by November 15! Not much time which was why he was nervous. He told his boss he'd have the yes or no to the job offer by next Monday, but already knows it will be yes. We all agree it is an opportunity too good to pass up! He stays with his company and would be a permanent position there, no four or five year contract then. He also would have the possibility of taking a term of work service overseas. He likes that idea a lot as with all the pay incentives and bonuses for doing that translates into lots of zeros added to his pay, and he'd still go back and work/live in Hawaii afterwords.

The time change on November 6th/7th, is going to be good! It is so hard getting up now at 6 am when it's now pitch dark until after 7 am! In dead o' summer, when it's light at 3:30 am it can be hard to sleep in but I think dark so late is more difficult.

Guess that's it till next time! Tad

I used to do avionics on CH-46 and 53(D) back in the day. Blade fold on 53s was always scary! Much more polite on 46s.

2021, the long hot summer of our discontent!

Yes, it was one long HOT summer!  In addition to the record-breaking heat along the coastal ranges in Oregon, Washington, and into Canada, we saw temperatures in this Northern Idaho area I NEVER thought we would see again after moving away from the high desert of Southern California in 2006! The hottest temp was an afternoon high of 112 degrees (44.44 C) on June 30th. But, hot, hot days, too warm evenings, no rain so dusty and dry.  Record heat, the hottest weather ever recorded in Idaho, and, according to the stories, only the beginning of the heat that will probably be the "new normal" from this point on. Seems that the same "high-pressure bubble" that causes the cold and snow of winter weather to almost completely bypass our region of the pacific northwest in winter causes record heat in our same region of the pacific northwest in the summer! Since my last post, mainly, we have just been living and trying to avoid getting Covid. Stacy and I got our vaccinations...

I can't say I'm on a roll just yet, but here's a new post!

So, to continue with last weeks story. In August, Stacy finally got the trailer she's been wanting all along. Yes, while I like the larger, around 28 to 30 foot or so, RVs, Stacy has kept the idea that smaller is better. Smaller can go pretty much anyplace you'd want to camp and our 5th wheel, at 34-feet long, while it can go most places, it can't go 'anyplace' due to the length. When we got the 5th wheel in July 2017, I was surprised Stacy was willing and even suggested, we go for it trading in our 33-foot travel trailer to get the Jayco. Again, the "Wildcat Maxx" was a nice travel trailer. It had made several short and two long trips in the almost two years we'd owned it. We lucked out as in an era of the rapid assembly to make the crazy sales numbers the RV industry has been having, the Wildcat was "completed on a Wednesday by happy Amish at the factory" as we didn't have any of the build issues I still read about from the appar...

Spring, and warmer weather is in the air!

I had started this post on April 15th, now it's the 23rd so this is now history! Warmer temps, for a few days anyway. After the last few weeks of more like winter than spring temps, it is pushing 70-degrees (21.1 C) today! It's been clear, not windy like the last three days, and generally nice weather. We can only hope it will continue to be good weather with it not too dry for the late summer since it has been a dry winter and spring so far. The last time it was particularly dry it was a very bad summer for Hornets. Most places in the region have many of those yellow and greenish hanging hornet traps set all over the place. We do too!  Time to get the traps out, cleaned, and set out for the season. You have to get the traps baited and up soon as with the warm weather the hibernating queens come to and start looking for places to set up new nests. That one year though, hornets were everywhere! The forest was alive with the buzzing of thousands (millions?) of hornets. Dozens ...
