Day ride part-4

Okay, last set of photos. I ran out of time last night as I was adding information to these photo sets. I took the photos on Saturday. I added all the photos and saved as drafts on Tuesday, added the words on Wednesday, and finished today, Thursday.

The first two photos are a continuation of the last post and the stop on the way back down.

Top photo, Stacy standing next to her favorite Honda quad.

In the second photo I was trying to show how dirty the quads had gotten from the dusty trails. Even though it had rained a few days before, and there were some really nice stretches of damp and dust free trail, most of it was kicking up a lot of dust. Even trying to drift back and keep a distance between each quad, the way the wind was blowing that afternoon kept the dust clouds close to the trail and on us!Its easiest to tell on the little tail gate of the Polaris. It is supposed to be black and not tan! It was the kind of dust that you pat your leg and a small cloud would drift off!

The last photo was our last stop as we made our way back to the truck and trailer down by the highway.
We were getting pretty low and it was pretty hot about 90 which is HOT for this area!
It was actually a really nice ride. By our odometers on the Polaris and Yamaha, the Honda doesn't have a speedometer, it was 32 miles round trip from the trailer to the top of the mountain and back to the trailer.
Stacy has to be in Pocatello all next week so we're planning a really long ride for the weekend after she gets back. We're going to take advantage of the fact you can ride the ATV's on the roads around here and start from our house and ride up to another area mountain East of us and catch the Forrest Service roads on the back side and ride down to the river then back. Should be a lot of fun. They'll be more photos then! Tad

Last August 3rd, the only car dealer in town, Riverside Motors had a fire destroy their offices and showroom. Above was during the fast moving 20 minute fire. Below was taken less than 15 minutes ago and shows their new showroom/offices just about ready to move into. The rubble from the burn down was gone in less than two weeks and crews worked all during the coldest part of winter building this new building. It was moved to the back of the property and cars were moved up to the front. Since the fire the 'offices' were moved out to trailers not visible in the photo but to the left of the new building. Riverside also lost the GM part of the sales and service end of it with the GM restructuring. Too bad for the owners of all the GM cars and trucks in the area, like us, we have to drive to Sandpoint to a dealer there for GM service etc. About 35 miles away now. Riverside is now just a Chrysler/Dodge dealer service location. Pretty building though! Photo below actually occurred ...

"SouthLAnd", the TV show and our experiences.

Just watched the premiere episode of this new show "Southland" during my lunch today on HULU. It premieres on Thursday night at 10 PM on NBC, it's the ER replacement experiment. It was pretty good overall, it tries to be more real and more "COPS" than COPS, but for an overall view of some real life in the big city it works, even if it is a scripted TV show. You can check it right now and watch it on hulu.com About 15 minutes into the show was a realistic call that involved the new rookie officer and his experienced training officer (the actor that plays this guy usually plays hard arsed bad guys), they are responding to a DB which means Dead Body call with dogs in the house. After taking a look they call out Animal Control and after the ACO's come out and get the dogs the police officers go and check inside to find the dead guy and that his dogs, locked up with no way out, had munched on their deceased owner. The sight made the 'rookie' guy sick and...

Life as "retired"

Yes, I am now retired! 5-months ago. It was weird at first; seemed like I was just off work for a few days.  I had to drive to southern California for most of the month of April, which added to that 'on vacation' feel.  The first long trip in over two years. It was something; gas was very expensive but even more so in California!  I was glad to take our Rav4. I had been planning to take our truck. However, just a week before, we'd taken it in to get checked out, which was a major expense and a wait for the parts, so I took the Toyota. It saved a lot of money, although I planned to take the truck and the small trailer for a room instead of moteling it.  With the high cost of ..... everything!, would it have saved as much as I'd hoped? Probably not in reality, but it worked as it did. As the Rav4 is a hybrid, I was able to get an average of 37 mpg, and that was keeping the adaptive cruise control set about 66 to 69 miles per hour which is plenty fast, even with m...
