Our first shift

So, as I had previously mentioned in a post, I had volunteered myself and Stacy to help out at the local Visitor's Center.  As with so many things, an idea that sounded good at the time isn't necessarily still a good one months later!  In January, when we walked in and talked about signing up, volunteering at the VC seemed like it would be fun, once or twice a month,...... maybe.  However, even though I was the one that wanted to give this a try, Stacy's name stood out to the current, and retiring, manager, and she thought Stacy was the perfect person to replace her!  We went to the meeting of all the volunteers in May and met everyone else. Stacy was introduced as the new co-manager and ideas and issues of running a facility with entirely volunteer staff were gone over.  We scheduled our first shift for last Sunday afternoon, June 21st, father's day.  With Stacy's trips to Boise that was the first day we really could.  The day arr...

The training is finally over!

Thursday, June 18th, 2015, Stacy's training session project of the past couple of months finally was held.  Stacy had gotten information about a popular speaker for our line of work that would be in our general area and was willing to speak for an afternoon for any and all we could get to attend his talk.  It had been very stressful for Stacy getting the guy and then dealing with all the incidental details that go with a talk like this. The place to have it, which went back and forth, what to have for refreshments, how many will attend, lunch or no lunch?  Stacy had been under a lot of stress building up to it and even the day of the event.  Boise Police Officer, Jermaine Galloway, has a website, www.tallcopsaysstop.com, and he has been teaching all over the country for over the last 11 years.  He teaches drug and alcohol lifestyle and use recognition for law enforcement personnel as well as with church or family groups.  If you shou...

Hot Times, Summer or Simmer, in the City

Yes, this week has been a very early taste of what our area weather should be like, in late July or early August, and not "normally" in early June! Since last Saturday the temps have generally been low to mid 90s which is well above the usual area temps for this time of year with the lows remaining a relatively warm mid 50s for much of the week. Records have been falling all over the area with the hot temps in the last few days. Being so small our area has no TV stations of its own so our local TV stations are from Spokane, Washington. The TV weather was talking about records of high temps being broken from the 1800s and 1930s this past week. The old normal temps would be highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s for this time of the year in our region. And that's the question I've posed before, when does all this weird and unusual weather, which has been happening the last few years now, become the 'new' normal with references to "normal" being forgo...
