Today the photos come from near our property. Actually looking at the top photo our place is back in the trees towards the left of the photo. Taken on the way to work this morning it shows the field that the owner spent most of the day yesterday getting ready for his crop of the spring. Since we've been living up here he's been growing Alfalfa, two cuts then he lets some cattle and his own horses loose on it to clean up the rest. It rained most of yesterday, and with the clouds it's supposed to rain again today, and it has. Not a constant like yesterday but it did rain. The photo below is looking across in the opposite direction of the first photo and shows another and much larger field that has also been getting prepped for the new crop. Already much of the area is getting green again, even with temp still going into the 20's at night. In about a month I'll post new photos from the same place and you'll see the difference! I was able to finally wash the winte...

"Tilt Shift" examples

Last night I thought I might as well post three of my "Tilt Shift" photos on the blog so those without access to my Web Albums can understand what I was raving about! As I'd said yesterday I think this type of photo manipulation is really interesting, taking photos of things and make them look like models, love it! Anyway, these photos. Top one was taken in 2007 when I was flying over the town and is the county Sheriff's office that also houses the jail and the drivers license office. Tall building at right is the county Court House. From the same flight in 2007, this photo is of the county Library with the Veteran's memorial and the towns very large flag there to. I think this photo works really well as the flag was blowing in the wind that afternoon. Overcast really helps with the lighting to make all more 'model like'. The last photo below, I think came out the best of these three. It was taken last November at the giant train station in Berlin German...

Monday March 15, 2010

Last August 3rd, the only car dealer in town, Riverside Motors had a fire destroy their offices and showroom. Above was during the fast moving 20 minute fire. Below was taken less than 15 minutes ago and shows their new showroom/offices just about ready to move into. The rubble from the burn down was gone in less than two weeks and crews worked all during the coldest part of winter building this new building. It was moved to the back of the property and cars were moved up to the front. Since the fire the 'offices' were moved out to trailers not visible in the photo but to the left of the new building. Riverside also lost the GM part of the sales and service end of it with the GM restructuring. Too bad for the owners of all the GM cars and trucks in the area, like us, we have to drive to Sandpoint to a dealer there for GM service etc. About 35 miles away now. Riverside is now just a Chrysler/Dodge dealer service location. Pretty building though! Photo below actually occurred ...

Rainy Day Monday

I'll start out with this photo of the 1950's era Safeway across the street from where we work. It was in the news last week that the Safeway Supermarket chain has bought out the only contemporary grocery store in town, Boundary Trading Company. This old building is very small and has none of the features most people think of in markets these days, deli sections, decent sized meat departments and lots of fresh fruit and veggies. The B.T.C. market has all of these and is quite a bit larger since it is only a few years old. It had been rumored for the last few years that Safeway wanted to build a bigger store in the area. Now they don't have to by taking one over. Boundary Trading Company was a local store that was bought up by a small chain a couple of years ago. All the staff at this Safeway market get first dibs at the jobs transferring to the 'new' store next month when the take over happens. Supposedly the staff at B.T.C. that aren't hired can transfer to an...

This......is the City

As Jack Web would say in Dragnet anyway. This is the old downtown and main 'hub' of the County. Residential and some businesses branch out in either direction, but this is ......the city!

Photo problems!

HOPEFULLY, the photos will still be on the post from a few minutes ago that didn't stay on the post from last Monday. I just found out this morning that although they had loaded successfully on Monday, the photos somehow 'disappeared' shortly thereafter. In just checking they looked to be on the 'page' again. I hope they stay this time! I got another error code after loading them, but there they were when I checked. I did check and many people are having the same problem or worse by not being able to access their blogs at all! Several are companies that haven't been able to access important documents for their businesses. They're pissed!! We'll see! Tad

The photos that didn't upload last time!

These are the photos, in the same order, that didn't upload for the last post. I've been having difficulty getting photos into google the last couple of weeks. Hopefully this is the last time I will!

Trying something different

I have decided to try something different with this blog. Starting today I thought I'd try to post at least one local photo every week, try to keep it on Monday, and see if this 'job' will get me posting more or less regularly again. So here I go! Above is looking North West on old Main street in town. A very nice Spring March 1st, even at 10:15 am it was already in the low 40's and going into the 50's again by this afternoon. Some activity already in town, you can see the "Dollar Depot", not a true dollar store as one might think, still they have quite a variety of stuff, mostly fairly inexpensive. To the right is the only movie theatre in town, the "Rex". Only open Friday to Monday nights, it was where Stacy and I tried to watch "Star Trek" last year. Once was enough! We really enjoyed seeing the movie it when it came out on DVD. I think the Rex is still for sale. Anybody what to buy a movie theatre for $250,000.00? Above is the sma...
